This is a reminder to parents that Seymour City Ordinance #2005 – 09 passed May 19, 2005, prohibits the riding of bicycles, skateboards, roller blades or roller skates on or along the sidewalks in the central business district of the City of Seymour, Texas. This Ordinance makes riding or skating on the sidewalks illegal at ANY time. The Central Business district includes all of the Courthouse square, North Washington Street and Main Street between Miller and California.

Ord. 2005-09 was passed in order to keep youth safe from the dangers of riding on sidewalks (or along the curbing) which intersect with ‘blind alleys’. It was passed also to protect citizens walking on the sidewalk. Before the Ordinance, some customers exiting our businesses onto the sidewalk were getting blindsided by juveniles riding aggressively on skateboards or bikes.

Recently Chief Duncan informed/reminded several youth of the Ordinance and notified them that there will be tickets issued in the future. Please make sure your children are safe and in compliance with Ordinance 2005-09. Fines for infractions of Ord. 2005-09 start at $15.00 for first offense, then amounts up to $500.00 for subsequent offenses.

Sidewalks in residential areas are appropriate for bicycles and skateboards.
